Digital Impressions (Primescan)

What is a Digital impression?

The Primescan Intraoral Scanner can be used to take highly-detailed images of your teeth to form 3D models. These digital models can then be used to design restorations like veneers, crowns, implant crowns, bridges and even complete and partial dentures. Digital impressions are also used to make clear aligner trays for orthodontic treatment, as well as night guards. Unlike traditional dental impressions that are goopy and uncomfortable, these impressions produce quality 3D models in only a few minutes to provide you with the care and restorative work that you deserve.

Why might a Digital impression be needed?

We use the Primescan Intraoral Scanner whenever impressions are needed. Digital impressions can be used to make veneers, crowns, bridges, implant crowns, dentures, partial dentures, clear aligner trays, and night guards. We find that digital impressions are more detailed and accurate than conventional impressions, allowing for the highest quality restorations to be made for you. In addition, digital impressions are more convenient, as the Primescan Intraoral Scanner allows for CEREC Same Day crowns to be fabricated in only one visit and also reduces the steps and time needed to make complete and partial dentures.

Who is a candidate for A Digital impression?

The majority of patients coming to our office are great candidates for digital scanning. The scan is safe, painless, quick and provides us with highly-detailed imaging that can be used for a variety of applications.

What can you expect with the Digital impression?

First, we sit you comfortably in one of our operatories. We capture the digital impression using the Primescan Intraoral Scanner, which is a small wand that sweeps above and around your teeth. As the image is being taken, it creates a 3D model of your teeth for us to view and evaluate. We will then use this 3D model to make your dental restorations, providing a more accurate and high quality product.
